Another Reason to Exercise: Longer Life!

Here’s another great reason to exercise: longer life!

At the recent 2011 Pacific Northwest Zone Long Course Masters Swimming Championships held at the Mt Hood CC Aquatic Center, there was a 92 AND a 90 year old swimmer in the same heat!  Not only do these gentlemen swim regularly at their age, they compete!  They also enjoy the fun and socializing with other swimmers of all ages-which is also good for your overall health!  In the US, masters swimmers are age 18 and up.  You compete against those of your own age group, which is in five-year increments. You don’t have to compete, you can just enjoy working out with your local team if you choose.

77 year old David Radcliff about to start his leg on his relay swim. Dave was a member of the 1956 Olympic swim team and holds most of the National and Oregon records for his age group. He regularly beats swimmers half his age, too!
